You can damage summer tires in below freezing temps so winter tires arent just for when there is snow on the ground. The Dunlops have a very consistant feel in any temp under 32 deg, nowhere near as harsh as a summer tire in those temps. When the temps drop below freezing the summer tires compound got harder and the ride a LOT more jarring. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced. Car is all stock, although I havent done a hard 0-60 launch with the 3" perrin turbo inlet yet. Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Other summer tires Ive had turned into hard plastic below 50 degrees and were very dangerous in any snow. Never went faster then that with summer tires either. The Pirelli P7 tires (the UHPS version, not the A/S version) that came on my Audi S4 do fine in cold temps and reportedly can even cope with light snow, though Ive never tried since I bought a set of winter wheels. It was acutally more consistant with the snow tires because I couldnt get them to spin during launch. ![]() Using G-tech pro I get 5.1 seconds consistantly. At 55-60 if I just tip into the throttle/boost I am doing 70 in the blink of an eye.ĪS far as acceleration I went just as fast from 0-60 with my snow tires as I did with my continental summer tires. Keeping the car at legal speedlimit on the highway requires attention to the speedometer and tach with either set of tires. I ran them as low as 25PSI and the handeling taking sharp corners isnt as sharp as the summer tires or the same tire with higher air pressure. I run them at 37PSI and they firm up nicely. I have continental DWS for summer and the snow tires don't give up much if anything at all in acceleration, and the ride is less harsh. When cold, say 50 degrees Fahrenheit, this tire felt even more uniquely plastic and refused to seat on our wheel. Installation in colder temps was a much more difficult task. ![]() Despite the odd feeling of this tire, our Topeak Joe Blow Booster set the bead on the first try. I have the dunlop winter sports and they handle very good. A half hour or so in direct summer sun and the bead became more uniformly round.
